What fans want to know about the film — and what performers hoping to join it should know first.
What is The Realm Beyond about?+
A former mercenary, a bard, and a vengeance-driven brawler share one unlikely ambition: building an academy where anyone, regardless of background or social standing, can learn and create a better future. To make it real they have to recruit supporters and raise funds — and that hopeful undertaking soon threatens an established order shaped by generations of deeply rooted beliefs and unequal opportunity. Expect medieval fantasy with action, adventure, and comedy, balanced by darker dramatic moments where the characters' choices carry real consequences.
Who is making it — and will Java Moody be on camera?+
The film is written and directed by Java Moody, and grows out of his long-standing love of medieval fantasy and the way it turns extraordinary settings into recognizable human experiences. His previous film, The Depot, gave him the confidence to chase this one: he credits it with stretching him creatively and showing what determination, collaboration, and a committed team can accomplish. Casting is still undetermined, but Moody is considering portraying Florence Brightstone, one of the leads, and is already preparing for the possibility. Either way, the chair he is definitely in is the director's.
When and where does it film?+
The Realm Beyond is in early pre-production. Auditions are tentatively planned for early 2027, with principal photography expected during the colder months of that year. Most of the filming is planned for Southeast Alabama, where several primary locations have already been secured. Trailer, release date, and screening news will be announced here first.
I'm an actor — how do I audition?+
Not yet, and that is the honest answer. Submissions are not open: there is no casting link, listing service, or paid submission route to send material to right now, and we will never ask you to pay to be considered. Auditions are tentatively planned for early 2027, and when roles are broken down and a submission process exists, it will be posted on this page and announced to anyone who has asked for updates. If you would like to be part of the film in the meantime, reach out to Java Moody directly at javamoody@gmail.com.
What kind of performer is the film looking for?+
People who can hold a sword and a punchline in the same scene. The tone asks for performers who are physically generous — the story is told with blades, travel, and scuffles — but who also understand that the comedy lands best when the characters' struggles and the consequences of their choices are played honestly. If you come from theater, stage combat, LARP, cosplay, stunt work, or you simply have years of D&D muscle memory for playing a party that should not work together but does, that background is a genuine plus here, not a novelty.
